Unlike Japan where we get to see the weekly sales of games across the region, the US games industry is a bit more secretive. We have to rely on the NPD Group’s reports to determine how well games are performing week to week and sometimes numbers aren’t even released, the titles are just ranked. Here’s a peek at what happened in June in the US.

- Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy
- Arms – 256,000 physically plus digitally
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 145,000 physically plus digitally
- Mario Kart 8 – 180,000 physically plus digitally

- Horizon Zero Dawn
But wait, why is Mario Kart 8 ranked below The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild despite having more copies sold? The chart’s rankings are based on revenue per title, so it’s likely that Mario Kart 8 went on deep discount at some retailers to make up a higher amount of units sold while not generating as much revenue.

It’s interesting to see 1-2 Switch still so high on the list, since I was sure that the launch title wouldn’t have much staying power after the first few months. Seems like people are still eager to pick up the party game to check it out.
I was also surprised to see Cave Story+ make the list, despite its physical release. The game has been released on so many platforms and has been available so many times, it was hard to imagine people picking the game up again. I know I will be as soon as I can find a physical version available to me.
Another interesting tid-bit from the report is that game hardware sales are up 27% this month compared to last year during the same month, so it seems the Nintendo Switch is definitely having an impact.
