Nintendo's new big hit: Amiibo sales are twice of Super Smash Bros Wii U

By now, it should be pretty obvious that Nintendo’s Amiibo platform is a pretty big hit. The NFC-capable figurines have been selling well, and some of them are continuously sold out at major retailers. They’re so popular that broken Amiibos have been selling for thousands of dollars among collectors.

Now Nintendo has revealed that Amiibo figures have sold twice as much as Super Smash Bros for Wii U. Which means that the average Super Smash Bros owners has purchased more than two Amiibo figures.

Nintendo revealed that Super Smash Bros for Wii U has sold 1.3 million units as of December 31, which means that the company has sold over 2.6 million Amiibo figures. Each Amiibo retails for around $13, which translates into $34 million in revenue for Nintendo.

Amiibo has quickly risen in popularity and has since overtaken Activision’s Skylanders in popularity, and is now tied with Disney’s Infinity.
