Nintendo wins case against patent troll

Nintendo has decidedly won a case against a patent troll who claimed that Miis infringed on their patent for making police sketches of suspects.

A federal appeals court ruled that the patent should have never been granted in the first place to RecogniCorp, who filed suit against Nintendo.

The suit was originally filed in 2011, and Nintendo won the case back in 2015, but it continued to higher courts. They have now ruled in Nintendo’s favor as well.

Nintendo has been fighting patent trolls for many years. Just last month the company won a second patent case against a troll regarding the 3DS.

Back in 2014, Nintendo won a case against patent trolls regarding the technology used in the Wii Remote.

Ajay Singh, Nintendo of America’s Director of Litigation and Compliance said of the ruling:

“The decision marks another case in which Nintendo’s unique ideas overcame unjustified threats of patent infringement. Nintendo has a long history of developing innovative products and we will continue to vigorously defend all our products from meritless patent lawsuits.”
