The original Wii is about to become an offline brick, as Nintendo have announced that it will be shuttering Nintendo WiFi Connection for both the Wii and the Nintendo DS as part of the move into the future to focus on the Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS. Several outstanding games with online components are being affected by the shut down, though online services like Hulu and YouTube will remain accessible from the console.
Nintendo maintains that in order to move forward with delivering new services, WiFi connection has to die. In a statement to Polygon about the shutdown, Nintendo said the shutdown will be global.
This is a global termination which will take place on 20th May 2014 Worldwide.
