The Nintendo Switch has been a much bigger success than Nintendo anticipated. The company even had to increase production twice over the past 9 months to meet demand.
Now they’re quite confident about future sales.
In an interview with Japanese publication Kyoto Shimbun, Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima said that he wants to sell more than 20 million Switch consoles in the next fiscal year, which starts in April 2018 and ends March 2019.
At this rate, that wouldn’t be too big of a stretch — the Switch has maintained a strong sales momentum ever since supply and demand stabilized a few months ago.
The Switch sold 10 million units during its first 9 months on the market.
If Nintendo wants to sell 20 million in the next fiscal year, it’ll be interesting to see which games they have in store for us. Zelda, Mario, and Splatoon 2 made sure the Switch had a great first year, but what games are going to sustain 20 million next year?
