Nintendo surprised everyone with Nintendo TVii, a TV watching, content streaming, DVR-like feature for the Wii U. You’ll be able to watch TV, stream movies and all sorts of content on the Wii U.
Nintendo has now revealed that the Nintendo TVii feature officially launches in December 2012 in North America. The service will come as a free download to all Wii U owners, and will work from day one with services such as Netflix, Hulu, and more.
Furthermore, Nintendo has partnered up with cable providers in the US to bring television to the console as well. Nintendo TVii will be able to stream news, sports, shows, and other TV content. The shows will have Wii U specific features, such as sports games where you’ll be able to get the stats and game data on the GamePad, and more.
It was recently revealed that Nintendo TVii was considered for Europe and Japan, but in order to get this to work, deals have to be made with many individual content providers and cable networks. We’ll see how it goes.
