VR code found in Nintendo Switch OS

Oh boy, this will surely start the rumor mill: someone has discovered references to virtual reality in the Switch operating system.

The VR code reference was found by a Twitter user Cody Brocious (tweet below), who sifted through the codebase for the Switch OS and APIs, and found an interesting couple of lines of code:

“IsVrModeEnabled”, as the line suggests, means that a “VR mode” is possible, and this code checks if it’s on.

Nintendo hasn’t taken a solid stance on VR, always saying that for now, they prefer to stick with regular video games.

A possible answer is that Nintendo toyed with the idea of VR and explored the concepts of virtual reality on the Switch, but it never amounted to anything. And all that’s left of those experiments is this piece of code.

But there’s always Mario Kart in VR, which looks incredibly fun.
