Nintendo: we’re not discounting the Switch this Holiday season

The Switch is selling well for Nintendo — far better than anyone, including the company, had anticipated. It’s selling so well that they have almost doubled production and estimates for its first year — they are now making 2 million Switch consoles per month.

And now with the holiday shopping season starting, some might wonder if Nintendo is going to offer a discount on the new console as a counter to the offers that Sony and Microsoft have put out on their consoles.

The answer is no; Nintendo will not be discounting the Switch this holiday season. That’s according to Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, who put it bluntly to the Washington Post:

“We are not discounting the Switch,” Fils-Aimé said. “We’re focusing on making sure we have robust supply at retail.”

He added that Nintendo is aware of the current supply issues for its other popular console, the SNES Classic. And he promised that they are working on having a “regular supply for the rest of the year”.
