Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima confirmed in an interview with Time that the Switch will not ship with an Internet browser, meaning you won’t be able to surf your favorite websites on the Switch.
“In terms of the Internet browser, since all of our efforts have gone toward making Switch an amazing dedicated video game platform, it will not support it, at least at launch.” said Kimishima.
Last month, Nintendo confirmed that the Switch won’t ship with media apps like Netflix.
Adding a web browser isn’t that difficult, there are already a bunch of open source platforms like Webkit, which powers Chrome, that could easily be implemented into the Switch.
And it’s not like this is a big deal — we all have multiple ways of accessing the Internet through browsers on our phones, tablets, computers, etc. Even some cars have browsers these days.
But, alas, you won’t be able to check NintendoToday on your Switch when you get it on March 3rd.
