A brand new trademark filing has surfaced from Nintendo, with the name S.T.E.A.M: Strike Team Eliminating the Alien Menance. There’s no other information about this trademark aside from the name, but it could be an entirely new IP for the company. The trademark was filed in the US on April 2, so perhaps we could see more information about the title in the upcoming Nintendo Direct?
It’s interesting that the chosen acronym for this game, is STEAM, which also a gaming service for the PC by Valve Software. There’s absolutely no correlation between the two, which is likely why Nintendo wanted to make sure the trademark was filed as an acronym with full title, instead of just focusing on the word Steam. Hopefully Valve won’t have any problem with this, as gaming companies have known to be litigious over similar words being used in game titles. For example, Minecraft creator Notch settled out of court for the use of the word Scrolls in his card game, which Bethesda contested and said was too similar to its roleplaying series The Elder Scrolls.
