During the Evo 2013 tournament, Nintendo flexed its IP muscle by attempting to ban Super Smash Bros. games from happening during the tournament. The Evo tournament is the largest gathering of competitive fighting games that takes place each year and the Super Smash Bros. games always seem to draw the most attention. It seems as though Nintendo has learned its lesson however, as they’re now listed a a sponsor for the Evo 2014 roster.
Nintendo will be joining other sponsors such as Twitch, Xbox, ATLUS, MadCatz, and Bandai Namco. It’s nice to see Nintendo embracing this side of Super Smash Bros., especially after the Super Smash Bros. Invitational that was held this year at E3.
