Nintendo removes user reviews from eShop

Nintendo recently introduced the option to review games on the Nintendo eShop. And now they’ve stopped doing that, presumably because they realized that they could never manually check and approve every review. Because this is the Internet.

Nintendo released a standard non-statement statement that “explains” the removal of the review feature:

“Nintendo.com recently offered a trial customer review feature to let users share feedback about Nintendo Switch games on our website. The response has been positive, and Nintendo appreciates the time and effort that reviewers put into their thoughtful commentary on the games.

Nintendo has removed this feature as we evaluate the future of the ratings functionality on Nintendo.com. We have no estimate on when an update will be provided on the status of this initiative, but we appreciate the enthusiasm shown for the trial.”

The company launched the reviews feature last week and would manually approve each review, which is why it took up to 7 days for reviews to appear.

Obviously, that’s not feasible as it requires a tremendous amount of manpower. How Nintendo didn’t anticipate this is beyond us.
