One of the most exciting revelations to come out of the Nintendo Direct this past week is that Nintendo is taking suggestions from gamers about who should be included in the next Super Smash Bros. DLC. While these are mere suggestions, there has been some confusion about the type of characters that Nintendo is willing to consider. A Nintendo of America representative cleared that up, however, confirming that Nintendo will take any character suggestions from third-party devs, indie devs, anyone.

Thanks for writing to us. I can certainly understand your interest in if third-party characters are eligible for the Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot. I want to assure you that you are able to submit any video-game character for this ballot. While we are unable to guarantee your suggested character will become a Super Smash Bros. Fighter, rest assured, we do take all feedback into consideration.

The internet has been blowing up with suggestions since the ballot went live, with some Nintendo diehards hoping Nintendo-related characters that haven’t made it into Smash will be showcased. There’s strong support for the likes of Waluigi and Bayonetta, but people outside of Nintendo have been commenting on the ballot as well.

Microsoft’s Phil Spencer took to Twitter recently to say how cool it would be to see Banjo-Kazooie feature as a character in Smash. Spencer even mentions that Microsoft has worked with Nintendo on Rare IPs in the past and there were no issues.

With this knowledge in mind and the fact that nearly any popular game character is eligible for consideration of inclusion in the franchise, who do you want to see most? Master Chief? Lara Croft? Maybe Spyro or Crash Bandicoot? The choice is yours.
