Electronic Arts has had something of a storied history with Nintendo consoles. In 2013 after the launch of the Wii U which saw EA titles like Madden and Mass Effect 3, the company decided to shutter its development of Wii U titles after a financial report revealed that Wii U sales only accounted for about 1.3% of their total revenue that year.
Since then, fans have been asking EA whether or not they’ll support Nintendo’s next console, the as-of-yet unannounced Nintendo NX. In a recent interview with the BBC, a spokesperson with EA confirmed that they’re in contact with Nintendo and that the company will produce Nintendo NX titles if it feels as though there’s a market for those games.
“I personally and the company are huge fans of Nintendo, they’re the reason why I started making games,
“We’re in constant communication with them and when they come to market something – and if it makes sense for us – we’ll be there.”
So basically EA is saying the NX will have to account for more than 1.3% of their quarterly financial earnings in order for them to care about developing titles for the console. Nintendo has a big job on their shoulders when it comes to regaining third-party support. What do you think?
