Nintendo loses Wii patent suit, has to pay $10 million

When you’re a big company with a popular product, you will be sued. Usually, it’s patent trolls that Nintendo has managed to fend off in the past.

But that’s not the case this time.

Comapny iLife sued Nintendo four years ago alleging that the Wiimote infringed on its motion sensing accelerator patents. And a jury in Dallas has agreed with them.

The judge in the case has now ruled that Nintendo must pay iLife $10 million in damages. Which is far less than iLife initially wanted: they sued for $144 million.

iLife uses its motion sensing tech for devices that monitor infants to help prevent sudden infant death syndrome.

Earlier this year, Nintendo won a patent case against a company who alleged that its Mii character system infringed on their police sketch patents.
