The full version of Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima’s Q&A with investors is now online and we’re learning several new details about how Nintendo plans to conduct business in the coming fiscal year. Earlier this morning we published a piece that discussed Tatsumi’s two-prong strategy for Nintendo over the coming years, focusing on the launch of the Nintendo NX and more mobile apps.
It looks like those two could be more integrated than we previously thought. In response to an investor question about how Nintendo’s smartphone apps will interface with their hardware, Kimishima stated that Nintendo is considering ways they can link these apps to systems like the NX, Wii U, and the Nintendo 3DS.
To start, I’d like to point out that we aren’t going to be sharing any details about NX today. I may not be able to answer the question in full as it relates to NX. We have not only NX, but also the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U platforms, and we are of course considering ways to link smart device applications with games for these platforms as well.
On the other hand, our development plan is also considering providing new ways to play aimed specifically at smart devices. Since I can’t share any more information about NX at this time, that is all I can say to address the question. Thank you.
The hint seems to suggest that companion apps similar to what Xbox One and PlayStation 4 have available for mobile might be something Nintendo is considering with its My Nintendo program.
