While the Nintendo Wii U continues to struggle here in the US on the eve of a few major releases, Nintendo has a different story to tell in Japan. Japanese publication Famitsu recently released sales figures for the first six months of 2013. Not surprising for many is the fact that Nintendo dominates these charts, mostly thanks to the success of the Nintendo 3DS.
With Wii U and Nintendo 3DS sales combined, Nintendo has moved an incredible 5.19 million software units. The closest competitor was Namco Bandai with 3.48 million units. So what’s the break down on those sales for Nintendo? Well, the Nintendo 3DS leads and surprisingly, the Wii is still going strong.

- Animal Crossing: New Leaf – 1.37 million
- Dragon Quest VII – 1.21 million
- Tomodachi Collection – 1.20 million
Wii U
- New Super Mario Bros. U – 140,000
- Nintendo Land – 110,000
- Dragon Quest X – 70,000
Wii
- Taiko Drum Master – 190,000
- Mario Party 9 – 50,000
- Wii Sports Resort – 40,000
PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita sales figures for the period are also available, showing that the Wii U is selling software about as well as the PlayStation Vita at the moment. Hopefully this will pick up as more games hit the shelves in the last half of 2013.
