With as hard as amiibo have been to find for some, it’s no surprise that Nintendo has sold 5.7 million of the little figures since their launch in November. Broken up by region, the United States and Canada is the biggest portion of sales, while Europe follows with Japan trailing. This sales figure comes about despite all the supply problems Nintendo has had in getting amiibo figures in stores and keeping them there, as the figures have proved to be very popular.

President Satoru Iwata released a statement that said it is difficult to promise to keep all of the different amiibos available worldwide, but that Nintendo will consider additional production if an amiibo sells out much quicker than expected or it enhances gameplay for a certain game.

It is difficult for us to promise to continuously ship all of the amiibo figures. We will, however, consider additional production in cases such as when an amiibo figure sells out shortly after launch, an amiibo is indispensable to play a certain game, and when we receive a lot of requests for an amiibo figure from consumers and retailers.

This is no doubt why the Super Mario collection of amiibos have made an appearance, as once the Smash amiibo stock has has been depleted, the Super Mario collection will be what you find on store shelves. When it comes to popularity of specific amiibo figures, Link topped the charts in the US and Canada, Europe, and Japan, while Australia remains an outlier with Mario as their favorite amiibo.
