For years now analysts have been crowing at Nintendo to join the mobile space in putting their characters on mobile platforms or to join the mobile platform beyond just dedicated handhelds. It looks like Nintendo is doing just that, but in a way that many haven’t expected. Nando Monterazo is a software engineer at Nintendo of America. Earlier this morning he tweeted that Nintendo is working on a tablet that utilizes Android, but that the tablet doesn’t feature traditional Nintendo games and will be for educational purposes only.
Experimenting with a tablet of Nintendo, the system is based on android, fully modified and unified as a database of the tablet. #Android

It’s interesting to see Nintendo diving into the mobile space in this way but don’t expect to be playing the next 3D Mario game on tablets any time soon. Do you think Nintendo could make a name for themselves among educational products similar to things like the Leap Frog tablets?
