Nintendo cuts Wii price to $130, adds two games

In the lead up to the launch of the Wii U, Nintendo has cut the price of the original Wii console to just $129. On top of that, Nintendo is including two games: Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort. It also includes the Wiimote Motion Plus controller. The new bundle will be available on October 28th.

Nintendo will continue selling the original Wii console alongside the new Wii U. The Wii U will retail at $299 and $349, while the Wii will now cost less than half of that. The Wii U is fully backwards compatible with Wii game discs and accessories, and players will be able to transfer their game downloads from the Wii to the new Wii U.

Despite being six years old, the Wii is still a profitable business for Nintendo, especially in emerging markets such as South America. The Wii has sold almost 100 million units worldwide to date, and will likely break that record within a year.

In case you have yet to pick up the original console, now is a great time to do so. Not only will you enjoy some of the awesome games, but your Wiimote and accessories will be full compatible with the Wii U.
