Mr. Shifty’s patch is done…but it’s too big

It’s been a few weeks since we last heard about the upcoming patch for Mr. Shifty. You know, the one that’s supposed to fix the frame rate problems you’ll likely encounter in the last half of the game? Well, this week, tinyBuild Games CEO Alex Nichiporchik provided a very useful update on the patch’s status on Reddit.

In his update, Nichiporchik states that the studio wanted to get the patch out to Switch owners this week, but they ran into a problem: it’s too big. According to his post, the studio is working with Unity to alleviate this problem and reduce the size of Mr. Shifty in general.

Here’s a video to show what Mr. Shifty looks like with the patch enabled. From what I can see, performance looks to be far better than what we have at the moment.

If you’re waiting on the patch before finishing up Mr. Shifty, try restarting your Nintendo Switch. As noted in the description of the above video, this will help reduce the frame rate problems. I tried it a few weeks ago, and while there were still some instances of slowdown here and here, it helped me get through the final level of the game. I’ll definitely be revisiting Mr. Shifty post-patch, whenever that is, though.
