Microsoft cuts price of Xbox One to match Wii U: $300

It’s no secret that Wii U sales have been pretty disappointing. Since the console launched, it’s sold just 12 million units, and was quickly surpassed by its new rivals, the PS4 and Xbox One.

And Microsoft might just have made things a lot more difficult for the Wii U. They slashed the price of the Xbox One to just $300, which is the same MSRP that Nintendo is selling the Wii U at.

While the Wii U was trailing in sales, it still had two advantages over the PS4 and Xbox One: Nintendo’s excellent games, and a cheaper price. Now the second advantage is gone.

Unless consumers are Nintendo fans, it’s going to be harder to convince them to get a Wii U over an Xbox One at this point, especially since Nintendo will likely release the NX this year as well.

To date, the Wii U has sold 12.6 million units. The Xbox One has sold 20 million (estimate), while the PS4 has sold almost 40 million.
