Mario Odyssey, Zelda BOTW, and Mario Kart 8 each sold 5 million copies

Earlier today Nintendo announced that the Switch console had sold 10 million units worldwide.

Then the company revealed in interview with Variety that its big three Switch games released this year, Super Mario Odyssey, Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, each have been purchased by over 50% of Switch owners.

Meaning that each of the three games have sold 5 million copies. Each.

The news was delivered by Reggie Fils-Aime, president and COO of Nintendo of America, who spoke to Variety and also revealed that Splatoon 2 is owned by one in four Switch owners.

Which would put Splatoon 2 sales at around 2.5 million.

Now, we’re assuming here that Fils-Aime is talking about global sales, as he did not make it clear in the interview, but was talking about gobal sales when it comes to hardware.

If the Switch has sold 10 million units worldwide and each of those games is owned by 50% of Switch owners, a natural assumption is that each of those games has sold 5 million copies.
