Mario Odyssey sells 1 million in Japan, fastest selling Mario game ever

Super Mario Odyssey has surpassed 1 million copies sold in Japan, making it the best selling 3D Mario game after 8 weeks on the market.

That’s right, it even beat out the two Mario Galaxy games and arguably one of the best 3D platformers ever made: Super Mario 64.

After eight weeks on the market in Japan, Mario Odyssey has sold 1,055,806 million copies, ahead of Super Mario 3D Land, which sold 1,042,511 copies during its first weeks.

Worldwide, Super Mario Odyssey has sold 5 million copies.

As for the Nintendo Switch itself, the console has sold almost 3 million units in Japan, and is on track to beat Wii U’s lifetime sales in the country, which stand at 3.3 million.

Recently Nintendo themselves said that the Switch is on pace to become the fastest selling console in history.
