With the release of Mario Kart 8 only a few weeks ago, we’re ramping up our excitement here at Wii U Daily. We’ve seen comparisons of a lot of the old tracks brought to life in the new Mario Kart 8 engine, as well as listened to some of the new songs available on the soundtrack. It’s all great, but there’s one supreme question that still needs to be asked. Who is your favorite Mario Kart driver?
Some players only choose a character because they like the character from its original games, while others go for what they believe is an advantage. It’s one of the reasons why Funky Kong and Dry Bowser were so popular in Mario Kart Wii, since they were classed as heavy characters who could drive heavy karts with top speed and okay handling. Regardless of whether you only play with a character to win, or you play with a character because you like their personality, Mario Kart 8 is bringing several new characters to the table that have never been playable before.
We’re looking forward to playing with the Koopa Kids as much as you guys, but let’s take a moment to discuss past characters who are returning.

My favorite Mario Kart character to play is a mix between Bowser and Wario. Since the game has a huge reliance on using weapons to completely screw up your fellow racer’s plans, both Bowser and Wario make me feel a little less evil about throwing out that boomerang or the blue shell. Still, if I had to pick between one of them I’d pick Bowser.

I like Yoshi because he’s fun and adorable; but, Mario’s always been my favorite because he’s the hero, Mario was the first game I ever played and he’s always had a special place in my heart because of that. Also, it just feels right somehow, playing as the main character.

Well, being a furry, I have to go with Yoshi. He’s so adorable and is a lightweight, which is really my forte. However, since all my friends started picking him first, I grew to like Shy Guy. He just has a cute little “Wow wow!” noise that I absolutely adore. He’s also a leightweight, so he’s good with handling as well, though that’s more determined by kart now. However, when I start holding the weekly Zorpix Tournament, I’ll be racing as my Mii so you can get a peek of my face 😉

What’s your pick?
Last month when Nintendo aired the Super Smash Bros. dedicated Nintendo Direct, we took a poll of all the changes announced and asked you to pick which are your favorite. We let you select multiples and after a week, we examined the results to determine which features were the most popular among the community. We’re going to be doing the same with Mario Kart, where you can choose multiple drivers if you happen to have several favorites. Keep in mind this list only includes characters from Mario Kart Wii, since Mario Kart 8 isn’t available yet.
If you want to select one of the new characters, just hit the option for New Character and we’ll tally that among the rest. Let us know why you picked a certain character in the comments and we’ll highlight the best of those comments next week! Be sure to check out the Wii U Forums as well, as tons of great conversation is going on over there in terms of the new game mechanics and new characters that have been announced so far.
