With no upgrade plan for previous buyers of Mario Kart 8 on Wii U, the upcoming Nintendo Switch version might seem like an expensive investment at $59.99.
At the start of the PS4 and Xbox One’s lives, we saw a multitude of remasters gets ported to the then-new twin consoles, some of which did have some type of upgrade program to help ease players from one generation to the next. Though no official, Nintendo-sanctioned one currently exists for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, that doesn’t mean you still have to pay full price.
Provided that you already have the physical disc on the Wii U and an active Amazon Prime (or Prime Student) subscription, a simple trade-in using Amazon can help slash the price of the Switch version from $47.99 to around $22.99, before taxes. Without the subscription, you’ll pay around $37.99.
The trade-in price fluctuates based on Amazon’s demand for the game and the condition of your trade-in. So, if you trade-in a game that includes the instruction manual, original case, and no scratches (basically like-new), you’ll get the highest amount. Meanwhile, trading in an incomplete “set,” so to speak, will net you a lower sum of cash.
Because the trade-in gives you Amazon credit, you’re free to use it on any item you please, including an eShop card, if you prefer to buy a digital copy instead. Going the digital route does mean you won’t get the PRIME SAVINGS discount, though.
