Mario Kart 8 getting cool accessories in Japan

Mario Kart 8 accessories

Ah, the damn [insert non-offensive cute jab] Japanese. They always get some cool gaming stuff that we in the West never get. Nintendo is especially known for pampering its home base with cool accessories, limited edition consoles and games, and more.

This time, Nintendo will be offering some cool Mario kart 8 Wii U accessories, including steering wheels for the Wiimote, and Mario Kart 8-branded Wii U GamePad cases / covers.

Nintendo will offer the Wiimote steering wheel case in Mario red or Luigi green, which will retail for 1,200 Yen in Japan, which translates into $12 USD. The GamePad cover comes in red and green as well, and retails for 1,700 Yen, or around $17 dollars.

We know that these are just a bunch of plastic cases with some artwork on them, but we still wish Nintendo would offer these in the West. Maybe one day, they will.

Japan isn’t the only territory getting some exclusive Mario Kart 8 hardware: Europe will be getting a special Mario Kart 8 bundle which includes a spiny shell statue as well.

Mario Kart 8 launches on May 30 in North America and Europe, and on May 29 in Japan. Nintendo has ramped up its promotion of the game — recently at the SXSW festival in Austin, Nintendo built a real-life Mario Kart 8 go-kart track.
