Nintendo confirms Mario Kart 8 Deluxe performance at PAX East

Nintendo released the trailer above just a few days ago to give us more information about the upcoming April 28 release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for Switch, but one thing that wasn’t mentioned was how well the game performs on the Nintendo Switch.

Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U ran at 720p and 60fps, with pretty consistent framerates and performance throughout the various maps available. Now TechnoBuffalo is reporting that in their sit down with Nintendo at PAX East, they got the company to confirm some performance standards for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

When docked, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will run at 60fps in 1080p. It will hold that resolution when docked no matter what. When split-screen with two players, the game will maintain that 60fps in 1080p performance; but, it will drop to 30fps in 1080p when three or four players come in for split-screen local play.

The site notes that they weren’t able to confirm performance of the game while it’s undocked, so we’ll have to wait until we see more press get their hands on the game to confirm performance while on the go. Still, it’s heartening to see that there’s no drop in frames-per-second until you start adding several players to the game.
