Earlier today Nintendo Japan sent out a new trailer for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and now we finally have the English version available to us. First up, Nintendo has confirmed that the game will feature an LAN play mode with support for up to 12 consoles with one to two players each. (Yes, you’ll need that pricey LAN adapter for each one.)
As for the game itself, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will feature 48 courses, five speed classes, and more than 42 racers. New to the series this time are the Inkling Girl and Boy from Splatoon 2, who also bring several new vehicle parts and the Urchin Underpass course for battlemode.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Multiplayer Details
Nintendo has included a lot of different ways to interact in multiplayer with your friends, including:
- Up to four friends can play on a single Nintendo Switch console in TV mode, or in tabletop mode by using the stand at the back of the console and placing it on a flat surface
- Online multiplayer makes a return, allowing for up to two local racers to get involved in 12-player races with others around the world
- Through Wireless Play, multiple Nintendo Switch consoles can be connected to each other, allowing up to eight people to play together in the same room
- Up to 12 consoles in TV mode can be connected via LAN Play, with one or two players per connected Nintendo Switch
What do you think of these details? Do you think there’s enough here to call this the Deluxe version of Mario Kart 8? It’s nice to see so many consoles supported for play, but I can’t imagine that many people will have a LAN adapter for playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe together. Either way, the game comes out on April 28.
