Mario Kart 8 Deluxe fixes the Wii U’s weird framerate issue

While it was widely advertised that Mario Kart 8 on Wii U ran at 60fps, that’s not technically true. The game actually managed 59fps and Nintendo duplicated one frame to make up for the difference, which could be spotted by the careful eagle-eyed player. It didn’t really have an impact on gameplay at all, as the video below shows it’s barely noticeable on the Wii U version.

Now that journalists have gotten their hands on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, it seems as though the Switch version does run at a true 60fps with no framerate gimmicks. That’s good to know for those of you who were “bothered” by the 59fps that was noticeable on the Wii U version if you knew where to look.

If you want my personal opinion, I played Mario Kart 8 on Wii U and thought it was a gorgeous game and never noticed any framerate issues. In fact, I wasn’t aware that this was even considered an issue until it was brought up by this YouTuber. I’m planning on getting Mario Kart 8 when it debuts and while it’s nice to know the game actually performs at 60fps, I’m just excited to have a portable version soon.

How about you? Did you notice the Wii U version ran at 59fps when it debuted? Let us know in the comments!
