Nintendo’s Amiibo figures are selling like hotcakes (or hotcakes are selling like Amiibo figures, given how popular they are), where certain figures are routinely sold out and retailers seemingly can’t get enough of them in stock — but Nintendo has tried to explain why Amiibos are in shortage.
So far only a handful of Wii U games support Amiibo, but the list is growing all the time. Mario Kart 8 initially shipped without Amiibo support, but now supports the NFC-enabled figurines (here’s a full list of Mario Kart 8 supported Amiibos).

And because of that, Nintendo has had to update the Mario Kart 8 box art. The newest box art includes an Amiibo logo at the front top right side of the box, and some Amiibo information at the back.
However, you might notice that something else is missing from the box art. Something that used to be where the new Amiibo logo is. If you guessed the Nintendo Network logo, you’d be right: the Amiibo logo has replaced the Nintendo Network logo.
