Koizumi and team already at work on the next Mario game

Super Mario 3D World

Super Mario 3D World was released to critical success last year and according to a recent interview with Edge magazine, producer Yoshiaki Koizumi and his team are already hard at work on the next game. Koizumi wouldn’t confirm whether the title will be for Nintendo 3DS or Wii U, saying it’s a secret, but he did say that the team is planning on working on new game mechanics. According to co-director Kenta Motokura, if the title is set to be another Wii U title, the team will make better use of the Wii U GamePad.

Another tidbit shared in the interview is that the double cherry item happened by accident during testing; a developer accidentally placed two Mario characters on the same course, which ended up the player being able to control both, which led to the creation of the double cherry power up.

With the team confirmed to be hard at work on the next Mario title, are you hoping for another Wii U title, or would you rather see another Mario Nintendo 3DS title? Let us know in the comments.
