The Nintendo New York store will have a “limited quantitiy” of Nintendo Switch pre-orders starting this Friday at 9AM. The store put out a tweet making the somewhat disappointing announcement a few minutes ago.
A limited quantity of pre-orders for the #NintendoSwitch will begin on 1/13 at 9AM while supplies last at #NintendoNYC.

Given that this is Nintendo’s flagship store that’s getting limited quantities, we hope the reasoning is because not too many people shop there compared to GameStop, Best Buy and other retailers. If every store will only take a limited number of pre-orders, then we may have another NES Classic Edition situation on our hands.
