After yesterday’s financial call with investors, Nintendo’s new president Tatsumi Kimishima did an interview with Nikkei, one of the foremost financial websites in Japan. Nikkei asked him specifically about his strategy concerning mobile games, but also about his upcoming plan for Club Nintendo’s replacement, My Nintendo.
Kimishima hopes to bring Nintendo’s mobile efforts to more than 100 countries across the globe and thanks to that reach, he has stated that he hopes the My Nintendo program will garner a huge boost in users. When discussing localization of its mobile apps, Kimishima stated the sooner the better.
“I want to do it as soon as possible. This is because our goal is to increase the number of My Nintendo members. It would be good if we reached one hundred or two hundred million members.”
Aside from general distribution, Nikkei also asked Kimishima if he thought his company would make money on the newly announced Miitomo, a social style free-to-play game that has received a tepid reaction in the West after its original announcement.
“If you want to dress your Mii in certain outfits, it’ll be so that you can select and purchase them. Also, it will have game elements.”
So it seems as though the in-app purchases hinted at by Nintendo in yesterday’s announcements will be for various outfits for your Miis, as expected.
