Kamiko has surpassed 110K sales, sold better in the US

One of the interesting differences between Japanese and North American games is that it’s easy to see how well a game is doing within the first week of sales in Japan based on sales charts that are released every week. Here in North America, we have to wait for the monthly NPD Group report and even then we don’t always get concrete numbers.

Thankfully, some developers are willing to discuss numbers so we get a better idea of how smaller indie games perform in both markets. Chris Chau, co-founder of CIRCLE Entertainment, recently gave an update to NintendoLife about the status of Kamiko’s sales figures, painting a pretty good picture for several regions.

The game has sold over 110K copies in the Switch eShop around the world, and was published by Flyhigh Works with assistance from CIRCLE Entertainment. In terms of sales percentages, Japan is 25% (and it was #4 in Japan for the first half year of sales), US is 48%, EU+AU is about 27%.

Chau is quick to note that there’s a lot of gamers left out of the Chinese market now that games can be purchased from Hong Kong and used in mainland China, so he’s suggested a Chinese language pack to the developers to help increase sales in the Eastern region.

Still, 110K sales for a game that took about 4 months to develop and is a Switch exclusive speaks well for both the game and the platform. Have you picked up Kamiko yet? It’s a classic throwback to the old 2D The Legend of Zelda games and it’s only $4.99 on the Nintendo eShop.
