John Carmack would love to see Doom 3 BFG on the Wii U

John Carmack is a legend in the video game industry, one of the pioneers of the first person shooter genre, leading the development on games such as Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein 3D, and the recent Rage. His latest project, Doom 3 BGF, is a remake of Doom 3 with a bunch of new content. And Carmack would love to bring that game to the Wii U. But once again, as we’ve heard many times before, the developers simply don’t have enough time to do it. Carmack said:

“I wish that we could deploy Doom 3 BFG Edition on a bunch of other code bases. I love platforms, I love looking for the fun things to do on different ones. I’ve been bringing up quietly at a bunch of the meetings, “You know, we could make a Vita version, a Wii U version, an iPhone/Android version.”

Doom 3 Wii UHe believes all these platforms would be “reasonable platforms to take this technology”, but alas, there are no plans of releasing Doom 3 BFG on the Wii U or other platforms. It is a great sign of hope though, that a guy like Carmack would like to bring the new game to the Wii U. If anyone is to convince the money-men to fund a Wii U version, it’s Carmack. The id Tech 5 engine, which he created with his team, already supports the Wii U platform, as we found out last year. The Doom 3 BFG edition will be released next month on the PC, PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. Don’t be too disappointed though, Wii U gamers are getting their own survival horror shooter: ZombiU.
