Japanese sales: Wii U sales remain steady despite PlayStation growth

Japanese sales are always interesting to watch, mostly because we get to see software sales from week-to-week whereas we have to wait on a month-by-month basis for software and hardware figures in the West. This week’s new titles include Xenoblade Chronicles 3D for the New Nintendo 3DS, but it didn’t manage to top charts despite being new this week. That honor goes to the PS Vita and PS3 versions of 3rd Super Robot Wars Z: Tengoku Hen, which managed to rake in 100k sales in its first week of availability.

So what about the Wii U? Well, it’s still hanging on as it has been for the past few years, in the middle of the charts with around 7.4k sold this week. That’s an average week by any account and considering no new releases for the Wii U, it’s about par for the course. Mario Party 10 hangs on at number 12 in the charts and despite Nintendo’s growth of the 3DS platform in the past few years, Sony products are actually starting to sell more and top charts as games that Japanese gamers are interested in become available.

The king of the charts this week is the PlayStation 4 despite a huge dip in sales, which shows just how much the charts can range on weeks where no real big heavy hitters come out from either Sony or Microsoft. Here’s a look at the rest of the charts.
