Japanese sales: Wii U rises to 14k sold after Captain Toad release

The Wii U faced fierce competition in Japan this week, with eight of the top ten titles being newly released this week. The top game that managed to finally dethrone Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate on Nintendo 3DS was Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare for PS3. It claimed two of the top three spots and knocked monster Hunter 4 Ultimate down to number four on the charts, but the real interesting aspect is that Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker debuted at seventh place on the charts.

Managing to sell a respectable 28k copies during its first week, the real benefit here seems to be the boost in Wii U sales to accompany the game. Last week the Wii U only managed to sell around 4k units, but this week it’s up to a whopping 14k units sold. Not bad for a puzzle game! Here’s a look at the rest of the charts in Japan this week, which is littered with new releases. Despite that, Mario Kart 8 for Wii U continues to hang on in twelfth place on these charts.

Another interesting fact but unrelated to the Wii U is that Advanced Warfare debuted at the 1st and 2nd spot for both the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation 4, but the same game only charted 19th place with under 4k sales on the Xbox One. It looks like Microsoft’s console will be relegated to obscurity for yet another console generation with the way its managing to sell so far.
