Japanese sales: Wii U has 5 games in top 20

Japan’s home console market has been in sharp decline since the rise of mobile, meaning the Wii U has had a rough time. Over the past few years of its life, it’s been very rare that the top 20 software charts in Japan featured several Wii U games, but this week there are five that are in the top five for sales. Both Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. continue to make an appearance, with Mario Kart 8’s DLC propelling it back to near the top of the charts after nearly dropping off a few weeks ago.

Xenoblade Chronicles X sits just above Mario Kart 8 thanks to its release two weeks ago and has nearly sold 100k copies in the country. Wii U sales rose to 23k last week thanks to that release but have dropped back down to just 11k this week, matching sales of Xenoblade Chronicles X software. Dragon Quest X Online managed to stay in the charts as well though sales of this title fell off far more than Xenoblade Chronicles X in the same period.
