Japanese sales: Wii U at 7k, PlayStation still on top

After last week’s truly abysmal performance in Japan, it looks like things aren’t improving. If you’re unaware, the sales of the previous week for Japan were dubbed the worst performance of game sales in the country since 2001. The home console market doesn’t seem to be improving in Japan and with no new 3DS games coming this week, Nintendo’s handheld continues to stagnate as well.

The PlayStation 4 and the PS Vita continue to claim the top two spots on the charts this week, thanks to new releases of The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt and two additional PS Vita games. The Wii U didn’t have any new releases this week, but its sales remain steady at 7k a week with five games in the top twenty. Those games have been hanging on for weeks on end, with Mario Kart 8 spending nearly an entire year on Japan’s top charts week through week. Here’s a look at both software and hardware numbers.
