Japanese sales – Wii U claims second spot after Mario Kart 8

This week’s Media Create sales for Japan are now available and the Wii U has managed to claim the top spot, just below the Nintendo 3DS after just three days on the market. Mario Kart 8 released on May 29 in Japan and this sales week is from May 26 to June 1. Given that this isn’t even a full week of Mario Kart 8 and Wii U sales, we’ll likely see much bigger numbers next week, if Mario kart 8 doesn’t experience the same slide off that the Japanese market is famous for experiencing.

Sony’s PS Vita continues to perform well, but both the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation 4 seem to be stagnating in terms of sales. Sony recently announced that it was discontinuing PSP production in Japan, so we expect to see PS Vita sales pick up once consumers transition away from the older handheld.
