Japanese sales – 3DS claims top spot, Wii U at 6k

Media Create has released their sales numbers for Japan last week. The 3DS LL reclaims its spot atop the chart as the best selling piece of hardware, while the PS3 and PS Vita continue to move units. PlayStation 4 finds itself in the same position as the Wii U this week, with almost 7k units sold. This trend of home consoles performing less than handhelds like the Nintendo 3DS and the PS Vita goes to show just how the game market in Japan is rapidly changing. People would rather consume their games on the go than have a console at home.

Several new titles were released last week as well, though Yokai Watch managed to remain in third place on the charts. The Japanese really seem to love that game. Here’s a look at the top ten software and the hardware lists for this week. Not a lot of surprise here, but it will be interesting to see how Mario Kart 8 performs once it is available on the market in just a few weeks.
