Japanese sales – 3DS back on top, Wii U sees nice boost

After a few months of losing its top spot to the PS4 and then strangely enough, the PS Vita, the Nintendo 3DS finds itself back at the top of the charts for Japan. Mario party: Island Tour released last week in the region and continues to have strong sales, while Yokai Watch holds its position in the charts. Just like last week several new PS Vita releases pump up the hardware side of things for Sony, giving Nintendo some stiff competition in terms of software sales.

Despite no new software this week the Wii U saw a nice jump of nearly 4k sales, actually finishing out the week above 10k for the first time in a long time. As always, this week’s numbers are reported first, followed by last week’s numbers in parentheses. These comparisons are only week to week, not a look at overall sales for this year or the lifetime of the product.
