Japanese sales: Splatoon puts the Wii U on top this week

This week is the first full week of sales for Splatoon after it launched last weekend and as expected, the title did extremely well in Japan. It took the top spot on the software charts at 69k sold, but reports from Media Create tell us that Splatoon sold 97% of its initial stock within the first four days, which straddled a reporting period. The actual sales for the launch weekend were around 150k and Nintendo has already brought in more stock for retailers as the game is hot on Japanese shelves.

All of these sales for Splatoon mean the Wii U got a significant boost as well. On weeks where nothing new is released for the Wii U, it tends to hover between 5k to 7k. This week, The Wii U claimed the top of the hardware charts with 21k sold. That’s an improvement over the previous week, where 17k were sold and a full 10k more than the PlayStation 4 managed to move in the same week. The 3DS is slacking off some in sales thanks to no new releases. Here’s a full look at the charts for last week in Japan.
