Last weekend saw some crazy lines in Japan for the Switch. It was so bad that some retailers instituted lotteries for people in order to determine who gets to buy a Switch.
Now the lines are back. That’s because Splatoon 2 is launching and Japanese retailers are getting fresh shipments of Switch consoles early.
This has brought thousands of Japanese gamers out in the street, some to get the Switch, some to be the first ones to get Splatoon 2 and its Amiibo figures.
Just at the Labi store in Tokyo, 1,500 people were waiting in line in 90 degree (32C) heat for a chance to get a Splatoon 2 Switch bundle.
This was happening all over the country, where big and small crowds formed outside of stores hoping to get a Switch. As the photo below shows, one store had 55 Switch consoles available — 30 Splatoon 2 bundles, 10 grew Switch consoles, and 10 neon Switch consoles.
Another store had just 20 Switch consoles, while there were a hundred people waiting in line.
