Japan getting rare amiibo restock, will the West as well?

amiibo

Amiibo have been massively popular since they debuted in November, with some figures selling out nearly instantly and being unavailable since then. It doesn’t seem like demand has lowered either, as within 15 minutes of going on sale, the gold Mario amiibo was sold out. It looks like Nintendo is getting ready to address this problem in Japan, as several high profile but sold out figures will be reprinted, according to a rough translation from reddit:

Thank you for being a loyal customer to Nintendo.

We apologize for the continued shortage of certain characters of our Amiibos.

Currently, additional production for the Japanese market is being conducted on Amiibos like “The Villager,” “Little Mac,” and “Captain Falcon,” and will be shipped mid-may in sequential order.

Because Amiibos require a detailed assembly process and partial manual labor it will take a number of months to produce, from manufacturing to shipping. We apologize for the wait but please understand.

Furthermore, we will consider additional production going forward based on customer and merchant demand as well as the condition of the marketplace.

So The Villager, Little Mac, and Captain Falcon at least will be seeing a rebirth in Japan, but if Nintendo is ordering more prints of these figures, surely they’ll order enough for the rest of the world to be restocked as well, right? These figures aren’t just popular in Japan, they’ve been sold out since they were introduced in November and December around the world. While this is no confirmation for the West, we’ll be cautiously optimistic that Nintendo isn’t leaving more money on the table by refusing to reprint for the entire world.
