RuneScape 3 could come to consoles

Jagex has been working on an HTML-5 successor to the original online game RuneScape, dubbed RuneScape 3. As many of you know, the Miiverse app on Wii U is mostly HTML5, too. This is how Nintendo was able to produce a mobile page for the community so quickly. Naturally this makes RuneScape 3 a possibility for the Wii U, but Jagex CEO Mark Gerhard has told IGN that bringing the game to consoles would be very simple, aside from console manufacturer bickering.

“Consoles are easy, If you can just get the console manufacturers to play nice with each other and stop fragmenting the community then we could do something there too.”

What he means by this is that if RuneScape 3 were to be released on the next Xbox, PlayStation 4, and the Wii U, players of those games would be limited to people playing on those consoles instead of playing all together under the umbrella of the same game. It’s a limitation that’s long since plagued the console landscape, as cross-compatibility with a competitor’s console is not something any manufacturer will be doing soon. Still, if RuneScape 3 is to come to consoles, it seems like the Wii U would be a natural fit.
