Tomonobu Itagaki has been much more active and vocal on his project Devil’s Third since it was revealed at E3 to still be in development, but now a Wii U exclusive title. According to him, the best way to control the game is through using the Wii U Pro controller, rather than the GamePad itself. Itagaki doesn’t go into details about the reasoning behind this, but in several statements he released on Facebook he praised the Pro Controller as the superior means for controlling his game.

In replies to comments left on his Facebook page, you can see Itagaki repeatedly mentions the Pro Controller and that footage we’ve seen so far is very old. There’s still no release date for the game and Itagaki isn’t sharing, but if this one is on your radar and you want to play it as the developer intended, it might be time to invest in a Wii U Pro controller if you haven’t already.
