Chatting with people during a multiplayer game is an extremely important part of gameplay, especially if you’re playing a game like Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate where you need to coordinate with your team on what’s going on and how best to take down a monster. The GamePad on the Wii U has a built-in mic, but if your gamer friend/relative lives in a noisy household, it’s probably annoying anytime they talk to friends. A headset can solve this problem, as luckily there are several great options for the Wii U. Check out these headsets that are guaranteed to work with the Wii U.
Tritton Kunai Headset

The Tritton Kunai headset is one of the best you can buy for the Wii U. It features a circumaural design, meaning it sits over the top of your head, with both ear pads encompassing the ear, rather than sitting flat on it. This helps reduce fatigue from having something pressing against your ears for long sessions of gaming. The microphone is also better than what’s included in the GamePad, so your gamer will hear less complaints about background noise.
AmazonBasics Wii U Headset

Some gamers don’t like circumaural designs, as they feel the band that goes across the top of the head isn’t comfortable. That’s where these behind the neck designs come into play. This is an AmazonBasics headset designed to be used with the Wii U. The microphone is in-line so if you’re not using it, you don’t have to have it out and in the way in front of your face. There are also mute controls for the mic, so you don’t have to have it always on.
Wireless Skullcandy PLYR 1

For those who hate wires attached to their controllers, the Skullcandy PLYR 1 headset is a great option that works with many different systems, including the PC. The base itself will need to be plugged into the Wii U, but once the headset is charged and ready to go, you can play wirelessly for up to 10 hours at a time before needing to recharge.
The mic also has a unique muting feature in that when it’s in the upright position, the microphone is completely muted. You have to pull it down in order to talk. I own this headset and have successfully used it on my PC, PS3, PS4, and my Wii U. It’s versatile and comes with a nifty stand so you can keep your cans free from wear and tear.
