All of the gift ideas we’ve mentioned up until today focused on the aspect of gaming that assumes the person you’re shopping for already has the console. What do you do if you know your brother, sister, aunt, cousin, or friend really wants a Wii U in order to enjoy Mario Kart 8 or Super Smash Bros., but they can’t afford the $300 price tag? Well, Nintendo has you covered.
The company recently restocked its refurbished Wii U offer for $200. For $200 you’ll get a refurbished 32GB Wii U Deluxe console, all the included accessories (except the GamePad stand), and Nintendo Land. This is the same bundle that Nintendo sold in 2012 for $350 before reducing the price. Of course, some retailers have Wii U bundles on sale for the holidays that also include games, so if you can spare a little bit of extra cash, you should consider going with that option.
The main concern of purchasing refurb units is dealing with the potential of receiving a lemon. The upside here is that Nintendo guarantees each of its refurb consoles for the same manufacturer’s warranty as new consoles. You’re not missing out on anything here if you do decide to purchase the refurbished unit.
Whether you’re a single parent scraping to get your kids something this holiday season, or a broke college student looking to get your Smash on during the Christmas break, a refurbished Wii U console can be the way to go to give the gift of gaming.
